In one of the standout ties of the opening round of the Champions League, the meeting brought together Spain's Real Madrid and Italy's Inter Milan in a strong and thrilling match at the Santiago Bernabéu, where the Merengue managed to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win to collect their first three points of their European campaign.

Mbappé and Valverde put Real Madrid two up

The tie began with great excitement, as both sides traded attacks and chances, and Inter Milan were the more dangerous party at times during the first half, but Real Madrid knew how to exploit their opponent's mistakes, so Kylian Mbappé was able to open the scoring in the 14th minute, before Federico Valverde added the second goal in the 23rd minute, giving his side a comfortable advantage.

Courtois and the woodwork deny Inter

Despite trailing by two goals, Inter Milan did not surrender, continuing to press and creating many chances, but the brilliance of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois prevented the ball from reaching the net on more than one occasion, while luck was also on Real Madrid's side in some of the attacks, after one of Inter's efforts struck the crossbar.

Carlos Augusto sets up a tense finish

In the second half, Inter continued their attacking attempts, until Carlos Augusto managed to reduce the deficit in the 77th minute, setting the closing minutes of the match alight, as the Italian side pressed hard in search of an equaliser, but Real Madrid's defence and their goalkeeper Courtois stood firm against the successive attempts, allowing the Merengue to hold on to their lead until the final whistle.

Real Madrid open with three points

With this hard-fought win, Real Madrid collected their first three points in the Champions League, while Inter Milan left the opening round with defeat, despite the strong performance and the many chances they created throughout the match.
